The Challenge
The key challenge was to design a visual identity that was not only engaging but also highly accessible. The brand needed to be usable by the DSC team in their daily tasks, making tools like Google Slides a key part of the design process. Every element had to be easy for the team to implement without specialised design skills, ensuring a seamless workflow across platforms.
Visual Identity
The visual identity I developed focused on accessibility, flexibility, and ease of use. Key elements included:
- Logo System: The logo was designed to be modular, with different versions suited to various formats. The grid system played a central role, allowing the logo to adapt to any layout while maintaining clarity. The logo was paired with the slogan “Just Ask,” which captures DSC’s mission of fostering open dialogue.
- Accessibility: Ensuring accessibility was critical. The colour palette was carefully selected to meet WCAG standards, guaranteeing that the brand is inclusive to all users, including those with visual impairments. All text and visual elements maintain high contrast, making them legible across different media.
- Daily Usability: To ensure that the DSC team could easily apply the visual identity, I designed templates and assets compatible with Google Slides. This ensured that everyone, regardless of design expertise, could create branded presentations without compromising on consistency or quality. The grid system was also used to streamline design work, allowing quick assembly of visual elements.
Webflow Website
The website built in Webflow brought the brand’s identity to life online. It maintained visual consistency with the colour palette, typography, and iconography while offering an intuitive user experience. The site also adhered to accessibility best practices, including optimised navigation for screen readers and a clear, minimal design to enhance usability.
Conclusion
The DSC rebrand successfully balanced flexibility, accessibility, and usability. The visual identity is robust, with design elements that not only meet high standards for inclusivity but are also easy for the DSC team to use daily, particularly in platforms like Google Slides. The Webflow website further extended this identity into an interactive, accessible online experience.
